Eating disorders are life-threatening illnesses that affect millions of individuals and their families every day. Despite their increasing prevalence, eating disorders receive less than $1 in research funds per affected person, compared to an average of $70 for other major mental illnesses. Eating disorders are widely misunderstood illnesses and support options are often inaccessible. As a result, too many people are left feeling helpless, hopeless, and frightened – this is why we walk. NEDA Walks are raising critical funds, restoring hope, and changing the conversation surrounding eating disorders.
As the leading U.S. nonprofit supporting individuals and families affected by eating disorders, NEDA serves as a catalyst for prevention, cures, and access to quality care. The funds you raise through NEDA Walks put life-saving resources into the hands of those in need. What is a NEDA Walk?
Quickly growing since 2009, NEDA Walks now take place in more than 95 cities nationwide. Each year, over 20,000 people of all ages and backgrounds come together to walk.
NEDA Walks are inspirational, community-building events where passionate walkers raise money to fund eating disorders education, prevention, and support, as well as advocacy and research initiatives. The largest eating disorders awareness events in the nation, NEDA Walks are a celebration of hope and strength, filled with body-positive activities, motivational guest speakers, and a short walk to symbolize unity in the fight against eating disorders.
NEDA Walks create a safe and supportive space where no one will feel alone in their battle. Everybody knows somebody who’s been affected by an eating disorder - so everybody is invited to walk with us! Together, we’ll stand up to stigma and send the message that recovery is possible.
The Cincinnati NEDA walk is a great way to get involved in the community and show your support for eating disorder awareness and advocacy. There are multiple ways for you to contribute to the cause, by either attending the walk as an individual or making a group, sponsoring the walk and getting your own table set-up, or donating before/during the walk if you aren’t able to attend the day of. Walking yourself? Ask friends and family to donate!
The day will begin at 10 am for check-in with an opening ceremony beginning at 11 am. The morning will be filled with inspiration, hope and lots of fun! During registration, chalk art, a garden of hope, and a live DJ will set the stage for an integrative experience. Stretching, a motivational speaker, and a short “walk” will follow to unite us all in our fight to bring awareness to eating disorders.
Registration is free and can be done online before 3 pm on Friday 10/4, or you can register the day of. Everyone who registers will receive a free t-shirt (we all love them). This is a pet-friendly event, so even Fido can join in on the fun.
There are many ways to help support NEDA outside of the nationwide walks as well.
