I honestly do not know how it took us so long to hear about Pilates Body Barre. I’m a pilates reformer enthusiast (read: junkie). Ever since I moved back from Chicago, I’ve been on the hunt for classes similar to the studio I used to go to in Lincoln Park called Pilates Pro Works. Alas, Pilates Body Barre in Ft Wright-- the best-kept secret that I’m determined to tell anyone and everyone about.
Owner Katy Simon decided to open up PBB because frankly, she loves to practice. We share the same sentiment that Pilates, especially on a reformer, does wonders for the body and mind. After practicing for 14+ years, she took all the amazing qualities that she loved about studios she’s visited across the country to create her ideal space. And it is GORGEOUS.
Mer and I took a private class with Regina Dolwick, lead instructor at PBB. Similar to Mer, Regina was first introduced to Pilates after a serious car accident. She was inspired to get certified the following year and has now been teaching for over 10 years. She is certified in Reformer and Mat from Pendleton Pilates, Balanced Body and Lolita San Miguel (one of Joseph Pilates apprentices). Because of her level of experience and certification, her class was extremely unique and involved a wide array of props. My abs were sore for days. For instance, she had us looping a wooden pole through the handles, kneeling, and performing elevated bicep curls and tricep extensions. It’s a good thing she was there to cue us each step of the way because there were some real tricky moves. The class was challenging, mentally and physically, and it flew by.
I’m looking forward to coming back to PBB to experience an interval jump reformer class and a group fitness class. They have some really unique group class formats like ball-lates (mat pilates with a stability ball), barre-yo (barre-yoga fusion), PiYo (pilates-yoga fusion), TRX, Hip Hop Yoga, Cardio Pop (dance fitness), and more. Check out all the formats here. I'm also super excited to come back because the Co-Op on Camargo is opening up in the space next door! I may never leave.
If you’re new to pilates reformer and want to give it a try (oh please do consider, it’s amazing I swear!) they hold open reformer introduction classes every Tuesday at 11:30am. Or maybe you want to try out one of their group fitness classes, in which case great news: your first group fitness class is free!
