Our friend Kate tried CBD oil to manage anxiety--here's what happened

We met Kate Richey through Instagram and then started to hang out at our Market Muscles events. She’s one of those people that you actually like to watch selfie videos of on Instagram. She's constantly sharing new gems of information about her health journey in an honest and hilarious way. Last week when we were hanging at Findlay after our Define workout Kate started talking up CBD oil. After sharing that I’d almost purchased some that same day, but didn't Kate ran to her car to get hers (Rosebud CBD oil from Spruce in OTR) and let us all try. We had fun trying it out (see photographic evidence below). We know most people are super curious about this new trend (no, you won’t get high) and Kate seems to be in the know so we asked her to share her story and take on CBD.

 

 

 

Recently, Kate was diagnosed with IBS. This diagnosis helped her realize just how much stress and anxiety can affect the body. Kate shared, “For me, stress and anxiety really impacted my digestive system. When I experienced stress, I thought the answer was to exercise, stay busy, and mentally fight it off. I wasn’t giving my body the chance to relax, and therefore my digestive system and gut were all sorts of messed up. I experienced bloating, fatigue, weight gain, irritability and joint pain, all because my stress was causing IBS symptoms that I could not control.”

 

In the past few months, Kate has made numerous lifestyle and diet changes which have helped manage her IBS symptoms. However, she still felt like something was off. As Kate puts it, “I could feel anxiety in my stomach. I could feel my heart randomly racing at times when I was sitting down or trying to relax. Fed up with the battle of happy but anxious, I looked into CBD oil.” Kate had a lot of the same questions we did, “Is this stuff weed? Is it just another way to get high? Will it make me foggy? What does it taste like?” Although hesitant, Kate did some investigation and found a locally stocked brand called Rosebud CBD oil. I’m pretty sure she’s memorized the Q+A page from Rosebud’s site. We learned a lot from her.

 

 

 

CBD stands for Cannabidiol and it is the most prevalent cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant. Its history in medicine dates back centuries. It has long been ignored while people focused on the mind-altering component of the cannabis plant, THC. CBD oil is non-intoxicating which means it will not get you high or make you buzzed, has almost no side effects, and it's virtually impossible to lethally overdose on CBD. It is also legal in all 50 states. Rosebud CBD is what the industry calls full spectrum CBD, which means it doesn't contain any other cannabis compounds found in hemp. Basically, it's one of the purest forms of holistic relief you can find. Rosebud combines it with MCT (healthy fat derived from coconuts) which allows the CBD oil to be absorbed into your system more quickly because it is fat-soluble. CBD can be used for stress, anxiety, sleep, inflammation, pain, and more. Kate shared her experience with us.

The more I read about CBD, the more it sounded like the answer to my problems. I bought my 350mg bottle from Rooted Juicery and was weirdly excited for Monday morning to test it out at my 9-5 desk job where my anxiety peaks. I got to work and sat at my computer awaiting my first task. Lo and behold, I quickly found out my day would consist of sitting in my chair, data mining, and filling out excel sheets. I’m in love with health, wellness and staying active, so sitting all day is my worst nightmare. I could feel my heart rate start to rise and felt a headache brewing as I stared at my bright computer screen. I whipped out my bottle of CBD and dropped some oil under my tongue. Following the online directions, I let it sit for 30 seconds before swallowing. Still a skeptic, I got to work.

 

About 5 minutes later, I realized my heart beat had calmed down and my thinking was clear and steady. Instead of my mind racing to other things, I was focused on the work I had to get done! Even though the work wasn’t my favorite, I wasn’t freaking out over wanting to be somewhere else. I waited for the sense of relief to subside but it honestly stuck with me almost all day. I was in a much better mood, my head wasn’t pounding at the end of the day, and I didn’t experience any bloating or stomach pain after lunch (which I usually experience because of sitting nonstop).

 

After a week of using CBD, this product is my new saving grace. Even though I’m still new to the relationship, I might be in love. CBD even helped with my hangover this past Sunday. If you’re curious or experience any of the above symptoms, I highly encourage you to try it. It’s an amazing product and helps so many people with chronic pain, nausea, insomnia, anxiety, and inflammation. Health and wellness trends are always changing, but this is one for the books!!
