If there’s anything you should know about me by now, it’s that I’m always down to try anything (usually health oriented) once… sometimes twice for good measure. So, when a few friends talked about doing sober October back in the summer, I committed on the spot. I also decided to give the Keto diet a try since I’d been wanting to try it and it doesn’t pair well with consuming alcohol.  More to come on my Keto experience because it deserves its own download.

I’ve taken extensive breaks from drinking alcohol multiple times in my life, each time for a differ...

When I think about the new "shiny" version of self-care that is being promoted by mainstream media, I can't help but think it all seems a little LUXURY. Here’s the deal, there is nothing wrong with a hot bubble bath after a long day, a glass of wine surrounded by friends, or getting your nails done. Where I believe self-care has been co-opted is through the idea that if you aren’t getting to 5 yoga classes a week, or spending 2 hours every morning meditating, you’re doing something wrong. When I lived in New York, I worked as a pastry sous chef at a busy restaurant on Central Park South. There was no “balance.”

It was get up, go to work, unwind, work, and then do it all again. Sometimes this cycle went on without a break for weeks at a time.I know this isn’t uncommon. I know this is what makes or breaks people in cities like NYC.

If spending X amount of time on the elliptical at the gym sounds like the most mundane joyless experience you could do, THEN WHY ARE YOU DOING IT??? That's right. Why are you doing it?

We often get so caught up in the cosmetic idea of exercise and health that we prevent ourselves from having the opportunity to actually explore and find what joyful movement looks like for us as unique individuals. Yes, joyful movement. Aka moving our bodies in ways that we enjoy.

You as a human being have the right to move, or not move, your body in a way that feels nouri...

Recently I was asked to submit an application to speak at a local Tedx event at UC (such a flattering invitation). The topic of the day is doubt and fear of failure. I immediately knew I wanted to present on mindset. Poor Molly has heard me talk about this topic a million times. The concept of fixed v. growth mindset (if you don’t know what that means keep reading) rocked my world when I learned about it and fascinates me to this day, and admittedly I talk about it all the time.

So, here is the gist. We raise kids, especially girls (says research) w...
